A testnet (or a test network) is a copy of a blockchain created for the purpose of testing and developing applications. The testnet has the same mechanism as the mainnet, except the funds have no real value. This allows developing and deploying on-chain for testing purposes, without the risk of using mainnet funds in every step of the way.
