A Mainnet, short for "main network," is the primary and fully operational blockchain network in a blockchain ecosystem. It is the version of a blockchain that is open to the public and used for real transactions and operations. Mainnets are designed to be secure, stable, and decentralized, and they serve as the backbone of a blockchain project.

The Avalanche mainnet was launched in September of 2020.
