General

What is the reward percentage for staking in the Avalanche Wallet?

It is roughly 7.86% at the time of the update. To view the latest percentage please visit the following page.

What is the delegation fee?

The delegation fee set by validators is the portion of the rewards that are paid to the validators. The minimum is 2%.

So what will I get at the end of the staking period if there is a delegation fee?

Example: You earn 10 AVAX from your staking period, 0.2 AVAX goes to the validator for the delegation fee. This provides a net of 9.8 AVAX for your rewards.

What is the minimum amount I can delegate/stake in the wallet?

Users must have 25 AVAX to delegate/stake in the wallet.

Why was 25 AVAX chosen and will that change?

  • 25 AVAX is baked into the genesis block, as a network parameter. Changing it would require a network upgrade. Ava Labs' plan has been to make network parameters themselves decided by consensus (e.g. voting), but that code hasn't been written yet.

  • The lower limit is an anti-Sybil mechanism. If it wasn't there I could create a billion 0.000000001 AVAX delegations, which would not be good for network health.

Can the staking address be changed?

The staking address can be modified only when you choose the staking details. It cannot be modified during the staking period.

Will a node still be a validator when the staking period ends?

No, the node will no longer be a validator. For it to become a validator again, a new staking period must be started.

How does the staking period affect the staking rewards?

Staking rewards are calculated according to a formula that can be found here. Users can calculate how the staking period affects their own rewards with the help of it.

What happens if I don't receive my delegation reward at the end of my delegation period?

If the validator that the AVAX was staked to did not meet the 80% uptime requirement, neither the validator nor the delegators who staked to it will receive a reward. Users can use this Validator Health Check to monitor validator performance.
