Core extension allows users to import accounts into their wallet in the following ways. Users must have an existing Core wallet set up before importing additional accounts. Please expand one of the below sections to view step-by-step instructions on how to import an account.

Importing an account with a private key

NOTE: Users are only able to import private keys for EVM-compatible wallets into Core. If a Bitcoin address is associated with the private key but has a derivation path not supported by Core, the Bitcoin balance will not show up in your wallet.

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Import Private Key.

  3. Enter the EVM private key. Core will load the addresses and their balances.

  4. Click Import Private Key.

  5. If desired, users can name the newly imported accounts.

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT share this with anyone else. No one at Ava Labs or Avalanche Foundation will EVER ask you for your Recovery Phrase, private keys, or password. If this information is given to another party, it will let them access the wallet, and this CAN NOT be reversed.

Importing an account with Wallet Connect

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Wallet Connect.

  3. Scan the QR code displayed in Core or manually enter the URL to connect.

  4. If desired, users can name the newly imported accounts.

Importing an account with Fireblocks

NOTE: Users will need to connect their Bitcoin wallet if they want to use the Bitcoin network or bridge their funds directly through Core. In order to configure this connection, users will need to set up API access in their Fireblocks account. For instructions on how to do so, please refer to this technical documentation.

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Fireblocks.

  2. Scan the QR code displayed in Core with the QR scanner in the Fireblocks mobile application or manually enter the URL to connect.

  3. Users will be prompted to connect or skip connecting their Bitcoin wallet. Select Continue or Skip based on their preference.

  4. If connecting a Bitcoin account, enter the API key and Secret key from the Fireblocks account and then click Connect.

  5. If desired, users can name the newly imported account.

Importing a wallet with a seed phrase

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Add Wallet with Seed Phrase.

  3. Paste or type in the seed phrase. The addresses derived from this recovery phrase will display with their balances. Click Add Seed Phrase.

  4. Name the newly imported wallet and click Save. To skip naming the wallet, click Skip.

NOTE: When importing a seed phrase, Core accepts 12, 18, and 24-word seed phrases.

Importing a wallet with a Keystore file

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Add Wallet with Keystore.

  3. Drag and drop the Keystore file or click Browse Files. After the file is selected, Core extension will prompt the user to enter their password. Click Continue Upload.

  4. Core will identify the number of recovery phrase or private key wallets associated with the Keystore file. Click Import Keystone File.

Importing a wallet with a Ledger

  1. With Core unlocked, click on the active account at the top of the screen.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Create Account and select Add Wallet with Ledger.

  3. Have the Ledger unlocked with the Avalanche application open. Core extension will derive the addresses based on the derivation path selected in the drop-down menu. Click Next.

  4. Name the newly imported Ledger and click Save. To skip naming the Ledger, click Skip.
