An L1, or Subnetwork, is a dynamic set of validators working together to achieve consensus on the state of a set of blockchains. Each blockchain is validated by exactly one L1. An L1 can validate arbitrarily many blockchains. A node may be a member of arbitrarily many L1s. For more information about L1s please refer to this article and overview.

An L1 requires validators that secure both the Subnet, and the primary network (X,P, and C chain). It is up to the node operator to ensure the optimal health of the node.

Validators can also validate more than one L1 on top of the Primary Network.

L1 Testnet Requirements:

  • Min x 1 node on Fuji testnet (does not need to be a validator yet)

  • Testnet AVAX faucet (Drops are limited to 1 request in 24hrs)

  • Additional quantities of testnet AVAX can be requested through our chatbox

Mainnet Validator Requirements:

  • Min x 5 validators (strongly advised for security and to prevent halting)

  • 2,000 AVAX min per Validator
