A Subnet, or Subnetwork, is a dynamic set of validators working together to achieve consensus on the state of a set of blockchains. Each blockchain is validated by exactly one Subnet. A Subnet can validate arbitrarily many blockchains. A node may be a member of arbitrarily many Subnets. For more information about Subnets please refer to this article and overview.

A Subnet requires validators that secure both the Subnet, and the primary network (X,P, and C chain). It is up to the node operator to ensure the optimal health of the node.

Note: Validators can also validate more than 1 Subnet on top of the Primary Network.

Subnet Testnet Requirements:

  • Min x 1 node on Fuji testnet (does not need to be a validator yet)

  • Testnet AVAX faucet (Drops are limited to 1 request in 24hrs)

  • Additional quantities of testnet AVAX can be requested through our chatbox

Mainnet Validator Requirements:

  • Min x 5 validators (strongly advised for security and to prevent halting)

  • 2,000 AVAX min per Validator
