A non-custodial wallet, such as Core, is a type of wallet that allows users to hold and own their private key while having full control of their own funds. You take full control over managing your funds, instead of a third party (e.g. a bank) doing it for you. With self-custody wallets, private keys are secured in encrypted storage.

A non-custodial wallet may also mean self-custody wallet.
